Mekong Policy Fellowships and Grants for civil society organisations through Mekong Connections
Extension of the application deadline for Health Security Fellowships and Civil Society Grants through Mekong Connections Program that shared with you earlier in June. I apologized that it was a short notice last time. The new deadline is September 30, 2021. We are organizing two rounds of virtual ‘Roadshow’ to introduce the program and solicitation on August 25th and 30th. No pre-registration is required.
Mekong Policy Fellowships
Have you recently completed your doctoral research? Does your work focus on health security, planetary health and the connections between human, animal and ecosystem health (the ‘One Health’ approach?)? Did you conduct your fieldwork in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, or Viet Nam?
If you answered “yes” to all questions, this opportunity may be for you.
Pact Thailand is putting out a call for applications through its new program, 'Mekong Connections.' The program is supported by the US Department of State. The Mekong Policy Fellowships will support emerging academics to present the policy implications of their work, and promote policy solutions to health security challenges.
The program team is inviting applications from early to mid-career academics who would like to receive funding and mentoring to help take their work to the next level. Fellows will take part in online ‘writeshops’ organized as part of their Fellowship, write opinion pieces for the mass media and other public channels, and network with other Fellows in the
region. The Fellowship will provide a US$2,000 grant and give access to a number of networking events and opportunities.
Come to the online ‘Roadshow’ session to learn more. The Mekong Connections team will discuss the purpose of the Mekong Policy Fellowships, and answer any questions about how to apply. Applicants must be citizens of Cambodia, Lao
PDR, Myanmar, Thailand or Viet Nam.

Grants for civil society organizations
Does your work focus on water and ecosystems, protecting wildlife, or health security? Do you work closely with local communities? If "yes", this call for applications may be of interest. Pact Thailand is putting out a call for applications for grant funding through a new program, 'Mekong Connections.' The program is supported by the US Department of State, and offers grants of US$25,000, available from October this year, for civil society organizations in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand or Viet Nam, whose work focuses on any ONE of these areas:
- protecting water-related ecosystems;
- combating the illegal traffic in wildlife; OR
- understanding the connections between human, animal and ecosystem
health (the ‘One Health’ approach to health security).
The grants would be for a 12-month project designed to improve governance, transparency and accountability in one of these areas.
The Mekong Connections team will be holding open online ‘Roadshow’ sessions for people to drop in, hear more about the program, and answer any questions about how to apply. The times and Zoom links are here:
